Hello!

Cassandra Tuan
I'm a Malaysian scenic designer driven by curiosity and a love of experimentation. With a background in technical management and fluency in multiple languages, I bring a blend of technical rigor and cultural perspective to my creative work. I'm drawn to stories shaped by power, intimacy, and consequence, and I approach design as a way to make dense human dynamics legible onstage. A deep, research-driven process is central to my work. I dig into historical context, visual and material culture, and the world behind the text, then translate what I find into a specific design vocabulary. Research helps me choose what to include, what to simplify, and what must remain non-negotiable so the final world feels intentional rather than illustrative. My design language is also deeply emotional and expressive-I value bold central images because they communicate my perspective on the narrative, not just its setting, and I'm especially drawn to voices and experiences that are often overlooked. Collaboration is where the work gets richer. I draw from my heritage and from experiences traveling, and I'm energized by the exchange of ideas across disciplines and perspectives. I work closely with directors, technical teams, and fellow designers to balance artistic intention with logistical reality. I believe constraints sharpen a concept when everyone is aligned. My goal is to build spaces that breathe, carry a distinct voice, and let the story unfold with clarity and emotional weight.
